Teams is KILLING my Mac Every Day
- Jul 14, 2022
Hi everyone, we're pleased to announce Microsoft Teams for Apple Silicon, which on the M1/M2 ARM builds, will have significantly faster performance than what's seen during the Rosetta emulation today! Here's our official roadmap ID for this release; Microsoft 365 Roadmap | Microsoft 365. More on this can be found here; Announcing Microsoft Teams optimized for Apple silicon - Microsoft Tech Community.
Users should see a significant performance boost with this release. And for the Intel Macs out there, we're still thinking about you! We have some large performance fixes coming that will help improve overall performance for the Intel version as well.
Thanks,
Sam Cosby, Teams Engineering PM
Sam Cosby teams performance on the m1 is by nature, significantly improved via apple translation. Teams on a 2 year old top end mac laptop with discreet video abysmal, 3 actual minutes to open and lag changing even a conversation.
I am pushing to get our company to teams from zoom, in-line with it a full migration to Microsoft from Google, salesforce, and several other tools yet our executive team, all using macs, look at this and think I’m a lunatic. It’s poor enough that business is being lost at this point.
If your team added custom backgrounds (maybe a couple other things) to the web client at least I could show them the edge app; we can't have meetings without branding. The web app is significantly faster on OS X - so why not prioritise at least mvp feature parity into the web version?
My guess is the answer falls into the category of, the entire next app is basically a repackaged web page and that's what we're doing. Is that correct?
