Teams is KILLING my Mac Every Day
- Jul 14, 2022
Hi everyone, we're pleased to announce Microsoft Teams for Apple Silicon, which on the M1/M2 ARM builds, will have significantly faster performance than what's seen during the Rosetta emulation today! Here's our official roadmap ID for this release; Microsoft 365 Roadmap | Microsoft 365. More on this can be found here; Announcing Microsoft Teams optimized for Apple silicon - Microsoft Tech Community.
Users should see a significant performance boost with this release. And for the Intel Macs out there, we're still thinking about you! We have some large performance fixes coming that will help improve overall performance for the Intel version as well.
Thanks,
Sam Cosby, Teams Engineering PM
It seems like MS released a new beta version of the teams client: https://9to5mac.com/2022/04/25/microsoft-teams-apple-silicon-mac/
I installed it and so far it is looking very promising. Way less lag and CPU usage.
NilsSovanta My understanding is that this will make a big difference to M1 based Macs, finally moving to a universal app rather than working through Rosetta. It's still based on Electron, that will change in the future, but this should give relief to the performance on M1 Mac.

StevenC365 I wouldn't mark this as a solution as its only a beta. i've got it installed at its made little to no difference.

mikefishtank It's the nearest thing for now, I'll update it when there is a GA version. Is your Mac an M1 processor ? I would suggest that it's not properly installed if you see no difference.
- NilsSovantaApr 26, 2022Copper ContributorTo be fair, I removed Teams completely. The app and all its (cached) data. After that I rebooted and installed the beta version
- NilsSovantaApr 26, 2022Copper ContributorIt is very weird, that the versions behave so different on probably the same systems.
All I can say is: The beta made my experience a lot better. I would almost say that it is a smooth experience.
