Teams is KILLING my Mac Every Day
- Jul 14, 2022
Hi everyone, we're pleased to announce Microsoft Teams for Apple Silicon, which on the M1/M2 ARM builds, will have significantly faster performance than what's seen during the Rosetta emulation today! Here's our official roadmap ID for this release; Microsoft 365 Roadmap | Microsoft 365. More on this can be found here; Announcing Microsoft Teams optimized for Apple silicon - Microsoft Tech Community.
Users should see a significant performance boost with this release. And for the Intel Macs out there, we're still thinking about you! We have some large performance fixes coming that will help improve overall performance for the Intel version as well.
Thanks,
Sam Cosby, Teams Engineering PM
rickbunker buying an external GPU will most likely be a waste of money. I have macbook pro 16 with the top end Radeon Pro 5600M with 8GB of HBM2, and that is not enough. The teams app on Mac is just poorly optimised.
Wait for the supposed overhaul of the Teams on Mac that's coming some time next year or use the webapp instead (that's what I do and then just put it into Large Preview mode where I can see all my colleagues). Or suffer the poor performance on Mac. Or switch to Windows...
- Tomas PeskoDec 20, 2021Copper ContributorFunctionality on the webapp is limiting compared to the Mac App, I think someone in this thread already listed all the restrictions of the webapp, but the performance is faar better. When I use the webapp on Google Chrome, from time to time the fan kicks in and the laptop gets little hot (as the CPU has to work hard for a little while), on Safari looks to run best (at least for me), no performance issues (but you will need to switch-off cross site tracking on Safari for Teams webapp to even load). If it wasn't for the restrictions of the Webapp I would use it forever.
