Teams Direct Routing - VPN Support
Hello,
We are providing Teams Direct Routing (Direct Routing as a Service, DRaaS) to customers in India
Due to regulations, the connectivity between the Operator site (SBC) andcustomer office should be over MPLS.
The users in customer office will connect to Microsoft Teams for PSTN calling. Signaling will go to O365 & Media will go from customer office to Operator hosted SBC (media bypass).
There will be Microsoft Teams users of customer who will be working from home.
Question:
1)Can the WFH/WFA users connect over VPN to the customer office to access the PSTN calling?
2)Does Microsoft Teams support VPN?
Since, this VPN is between the WFH/WFA user and customer office, does Microsoft have any role to play?

- Additionally if there is any quality issues which the customer will run into Microsoft will not support the same and Microsoft would recommend to test it with supported scenario. For the Microsoft Tech Support this would be not supported by design.
- Hi, your problem is the regulation in India for PSTN calling.
You can read this link how to implement LBA with teams in India. Default VPN is not allowed from Home office.

I did perform few testing as a part of proof of concept but when we talk about PSTN traffic and meeting traffic, if we enforce the MS teams traffic via VPN (based on SIP Proxy IP subnet) we cannot differentiate PSTN and meeting traffic easily to route only PSTN traffic via VPN and eventually we may have to route MS teams traffic (Meeting & PSTN) via VPN which eventually cause call quality/performance issues.- I am interested to know how you attempted to differentiate the traffic of pstn vs meeting/teams to teams call, as essentially they use the same ports and public IP for signalling, and media as well to some extent.
vikramh24288 There's nothing to prevent it other than the performance and reliability of the VPN meeting the requirements for Teams, but it's certainly not something Microsoft support.
- Thanks Steven. In short, it will work if VPN supports requirements of Teams, but VPN is not recommended by Microsoft.
