Teams Button on new Microsoft Modern Speaker and Modern Bluetooth Headset Stopped Working
I have the new Microsoft Modern Speaker and Modern Bluetooth headset for Teams. Recently the "Teams" button stopped working on both. If I understand how it's supposed to work when I press it while Teams isn't running it should start Teams, if Teams is running it should bring the application into focus (bring it into the foreground) and if it's running and a meeting starts it should flash and when pressed should join the meeting.
Pressing it now just causes it to blink and do nothing. Is anyone else having this issue? I am running Windows 10 and 11 (has the same issue whether it is on either OS version).
Seems there is an issue with current MS Teams version. According to Jabra support, MS would probably come with a new version, but they are not sure about the timeline.
... wondering if it makes sense to purchase MS Teams certified devices, if respective functionality is not included in testing cycles

After struggling with this for a while, I found the Teams button will only work if the Moder USB-C Speaker is set as the default microphone on Teams. We were using another mic, but changing the default to this device makes the Teams button work again. Hope this helps.

Ariz_1860 Thanks for the tip unfortunately still doesn't work. Were you referring to the commercial version of Teams. There are two. It works on the commercial version (the version for work) but doesn't work on the "Friends and Family" version that ships with Windows 11. It worked a year and a half ago and Microsoft broke both versions. They fixed the commercial version like a month later but never fixed the Friends and Family version. I guess they figure this device is only for work. Kind of sucks and they broke both this device and the Bluetooth Teams headset. They work for voice and sound, but the Teams button does not. Kind of like the only reason people would buy them as there are many better options if you just want that.
- Carol ChisholmIron ContributorI don't make or take a lot of calls, I have a Microsoft Modern headset and a Surface Pro 8. Connection is Bluetooth.
Every call I have to turn off the headset and turn it back on again to get it to reconnect.

Carol Chisholm are you referring to Teams calls using the headset or any calls ie. Phone Link, Zoom, or any non-Teams call? I can test with mine.
- IcebugzBrass ContributorI know this thread is pretty much dead but thought I would see if anyone ever had any luck getting the Microsoft Modern USB-C Teams speaker working with all functionality on Teams for Friends and Family. It has been a year now and they never fixed it. I also just bought one of the Elgato Stream Decks which had a plugin for Teams. It worked for just short of two days and Microsoft pulled it. This company has zero loyalty to anything except constant cash revenue from half-baked products. Sad but they were once a good company.... 😞

I bought the Microsoft Modern Speaker today and the Teams button is still not working.
It lights up when it's plugged in.
Doesn't do anything if you press it once.
But pressing and holding it would "raise hand" in the Teams call.
What exactly is the expected behaviour for the Teams button?

This is so frustrating that the button does not work correctly in all Teams environments. Different versions of Teams allow the Phone button to work. Recently my company upgraded teams to allow direct dial with a phone number and now the phone button works both to answer Teams call , Phone calls and end the events. Alvin_Wong

I purchased a new USB-C Modern Speaker. The Teams button lit up when plugged into the USB port. However, the button had no effect when pressed. I rebooted the PC and saw the same outcome. I manually initiated a Teams update from within Teams. When the update completed, the Teams Button on the Modern Speaker started working as advertised (brought the Teams app into focus).
- IcebugzBrass ContributorAre you referring to the commercial version of Teams (which you use with co-workers) or the "Friends and Family" version that comes bundled with Windows 11 and can be installed on Windows 10? They are different but look the same for the most part. Both were broken in December but the commercial version was fixed in late January early February. The "Friends and Family" version remains broken. Panos Panay has aggressively pushed using the "Friends and Family" version of Teams in his presentations. Microsoft even created a "Certified for Teams" accessory program that clearly does not apply to its own products. Don't get me wrong, I want them to succeed as I have worked in IT for 30 years going back to mainframe days. Now I work in the semiconductor industry. It appears to many in the industry that Microsoft is more a commercial focused company these days and I get why. I am writing this message on a Surface Duo 2 which is also not without a dozen aggravating small issues that could be fixed with a light lift. Sorry for the rant, I am a Microsoft fan, just want them to be a customer fan as well.

Icebugz I have the issue where the Teams button and the Phone button do not work as well. So frustrating! I may as well take it back for a refund.

Got the headset yesterday (17th May 2022) and I have the same issue with my Microsoft Modern Wireless Headset - Teams button and answer/end call button not working.
I'm using Microsoft Teams for business, version number 1.5.00.11163 (64-bit). It was last updated on 5/05/2022.

I just bought the Modern USB-C speaker and Teams button lights up white but does nothing no matter what.
I use Teams as my work phone and the call button will answer a voice call when pressed and it will hang it up. Mute works as well.
But I can hear mouse clicks and my chair moving on my cell phone side of the call coming from the speaker. The noise cancellation does not appear to be working. It is set to auto in Teams.
version 1.5.00.9163i need someone to teams video call me…. Tomorrow that will happen
- IcebugzBrass ContributorGood luck with that. There's a better chance that the world is flat. Even as I reply to your message it keeps getting blocked with surveys for Microsoft. They could care less about your experience. They'll do nothing. Hate it because they were once an awesome company. Now they are trash.
- IcebugzBrass ContributorStill no luck with it working in Teams for Home (Friends and Family ie. Non-Commercial). Anyone else have it working?

The problem also appears if you use Skype For Business + Teams. Closing Skype For Business brings back the function of the Teams button on the Microsoft Modern USB Headset wired in my case.
- IcebugzBrass ContributorStill not working on Teams for Home in Windows 11.
- IcebugzBrass ContributorStill not working for the Teams Home version (the version for commercial works though) . Anyone else having better luck?
- IcebugzBrass ContributorMine is still working so I guess this issue is resolved with the Commercial version of Teams. It does not however work with the Teams Personal / Home version, and quite frankly I don't know if it ever did. Just happened to try it on my personal Surface Laptop 3 and same behavior as the Commercial version was demonstrating until this week. Does anyone know if the Teams button functionality ever worked on Personal / Home Teams (and maybe we're just waiting on a backend fix) or whether it was designed just for business?
- IcebugzBrass ContributorHey thanks for the quick reply. That's good to know. Since the behavior I am seeing on Teams Home is consistent with what we were experiencing on Teams Commercial (Button doesn't light up and pressing it just causes the light to blink a couple times and does nothing) I'm guessing they just haven't restored the functionality to the Home version yet. I'll try it once or twice a day and report back if mine starts working.
