Teams app on PC randomly stops detecting webcam

We have 4 conference rooms set up as follows:

  • Intel NUC running Windows 11 22H2, fully patched and up to date
  • Jabra Panacast USB webcam, latest firmware
  • Latest Teams app fully updated, signed in as a 365 account with a Teams Room license

This setup has been in place for over a year working without any issues.

Starting last week, we started seeing an issue where Teams will periodically stop detecting the webcam.  When the issue occurs, if we navigate to device settings, Teams will simply show no camera devices available in the video drop down list.  Sometimes Teams loses the camera on its own and the next time someone tries to do a video call it doesn't work, but we've also seen a case where Teams works with the camera normally initially and then the video just randomly drops out in the middle of the call and the camera can no longer be detected.

We've seen the exact same issue on two separate systems so far.

On the first system, I did a full uninstall and reinstall of Teams to get the camera working again.  On the second system, when I tried that, it did not work (issue persisted after reinstall).

After some research, I found this post and confirmed that the workaround listed there does temporarily fix the problem (it gets the camera to work again), however it is not a permanent fix as the problem has recurred within a day.

The issue only affects the Teams app on the PC.  Other apps like the built-in Windows Camera app, Teams web app, WebEx, Zoom, etc. all work fine with the camera and have absolutely no problems (even when Teams insists no camera is connected).

Since the setup has been in place and working for quite some time and the problem only recently began, I am wondering if this is somehow related to a software update.

Strangely, we've only seen this issue on our conference room systems.  None of our end users have reported any problems with Teams on their laptops.

There are a few things that are unique about the conference rooms:

  • They are all using Teams Room licenses
  • They are all using Jabra Panacast cameras

Curious if anyone else has seen this behavior or has any clue as to what might be going on?  I opened a case with MSFT support yesterday but have not received any feedback yet.
