Team GIF Search Results Changes

Obviously this is not very important, but has anyone else experienced a change (for the worse, in my opinion) to the GIF search results? I type in "Hi" and I get batman rubbing his chin and then a bunch of High-Five results.. Just wondering if there was an update or change announced by MS. Thanks!

  • You’re not the only one noticing that.

Microsoft Teams relies on third-party GIF providers (such as GIPHY), and the search results are influenced by their indexing, tagging logic, content filtering level, and regional settings. Small backend changes on the provider side can significantly affect search behavior — even for simple keywords like “Hi”.

There hasn’t been a major public announcement specifically about GIF search changes, but these adjustments often happen silently due to:

    – Content moderation updates
    – SafeSearch filtering level (Teams admin policies)
    – Regional content ranking
    – Changes in the GIF provider’s algorithm

If you’re seeing very different results compared to before, it might also be worth checking whether your tenant has modified messaging policies or GIF content rating settings in the Teams Admin Center.

Curious to know if others are seeing similar behavior — especially across different tenants or regions.
