Hello, difficult to say what's happening here. If using the desktop app, sign out of Teams (top right corner) and back in again as that will refresh settings and cache. You can also verify the behavior using Teams on the web https://teams.microsoft.com (if you're using several account open your browser using InPrivate mode / Incognito).
