Struggling with Team naming and organization
- Apr 17, 2020I've just learned to stop overthinking the URL's and go off the Display names of the groups / attached sites. I mean you could always go with a generic name, then rename it after creation I suppose.
When it comes to naming conventions in general for me it's always
Comm sites or sharepoint only sites are just the name, such as (Technology) for our Org facing site. Our private Team attached site is always Technology Team etc. Projects follow same structure, if it has a Team it's MOC Team, or Invoice Tracking Project Team etc. I try not to overthink it and keep it pretty much to if it has a Team tied to it we tack Team to the end etc.
ChrisWebbTech Thanks, when I set out I thought I was going to be more asking people how they handle organization/renaming as they grow and new teams get created and original organization/naming doesn't seem to fit any longer.
I can certainly post this as a feature, and I will. But kind of wondering what people are doing, maybe there is a best practice someone could share, that would keep me from creating the problems I am having.

ChrisWebbTech So I have just moved forward not paying to much attention to what the URLs end up being. It is pretty freeing, lol.
I also have made a couple a teams using your conventions. adding "team" to the end of the name "project Team" so simple and it works. The only one I didn't like was "Board of Directors Team" even tried "BoD Team" and not sure I like that that either. For now the team and the communication site remain Board of Directors.
Anyway, I was totally overthinking it, simple naming solution works very well for a small organization like ours.
thanks,- Apr 18, 2020Yeah. You’ll have exceptions here and there but I still like to name it with Team first for URL recognition later. So team will be in URL so I know a Team is there then change display. But glad I could help!

ChrisWebbTech Thanks, I had the feeling I was just overthinking it all. It isnt often that a user need to remember these urls or come up with them off the top of there head. Just me being neurotic perhaps.
I am just going to go with it. what the system generates is what is generated.
