Show more than 4 people on Teams video
Hi,
Looking back through previous forum posts, it looks like there have been plans to expand the max number of windows shown in calls from 2x2 to 3x3, so you would be able to see 9 people on video at a time rather than 4.
Has there been any progress on this? You're probably aware that a huge number of people are now working from home, so this would be a very useful feature to have at the moment!
Thanks
Mike

Please! Microsoft! I'm a teacher on my first day of online teaching and was so disappointed that in team meetings you can only see, at most, 4 students at a time. In Zoom, you can see everyone (and all of the students can see each other) but my district has only approved MS teams...please, it can't be that difficult to allow more video streaming per meeting. SOON, like today please!

Tanya1748 Like Tanya's District, my wife's district only allows MS Teams and the 4 person window is a challenge. Our company only uses MS Teams and the 4 window screen has been a challenge since we adopted Teams about 1+ year ago. It seems like now, given work from home orders, would be a good time to incorporate multiple window. Please.

I am a teacher as well. I have 160 students, yet I can only see 4 at a time. We are in a crucial time where our students need to see faces of their peers to help support metal health. Zoom allows you to see a lot more than 4, but not district approved. Please please please work on this feature!!!

Hi - can you also vote on it to encourage Microsoft to work on please?

I completely agree with Tanya. My district will be using Teams for the first time starting on Monday and it is really disappointing that we cannot see more than 4 students at a time. We were using Zoom and really appreciated that feature. Please look into making that change. Many teachers are considering switching back to zoom. Tanya1748

Mikehopkins18 Best thing to do is use the https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/17010055-show-video-for-all-people-in-video-meeting#{toggle_previous_statuses} feature request - you can vote for it (I just did that!) and then check for updates
- AntoineHubCopper ContributorJust did, hope it will be solved within hours now seeing the situation
- StefanFriedSteel ContributorOr to use slack (supports up to 15 participants with video in a call)
Not sure if necessary bandwidht OR TRouter or TURN Server configuration is the reason why only 4 concurrent videos are supported.
For sure it's not a simple task...otherwise they would have solved it already right from the beginning 😉
- Mikehopkins18Iron ContributorJust voted, thanks SwAG_Ben

Just bonkers that this is not implemented, all the major competitors have this functionality. As an Infrastructure Manager I'm being flooded with emails and calls daily from the competitors to get me to use their platform and I'm very tempted to just move over to Webex.

- Jenn0813Copper ContributorHow do you vote? Sorry- new to this chat.
- KristinMillerCopper ContributorMy husband uses WebEx for work and it functions just like Teams, you can only see 4 participants at a time and the pictures jump to the 4 whom have most recently had sound detected.
- SoonerManiacCopper ContributorNo. My company has Webex and we had over 40 for a happy hour all showing at once. You work for Microsoft? lol
- slangbeinCopper Contributor
Mikehopkins18 Thanks for raising this topic. We just had a company wide "Happy Hour" and could only view 4 of the 12 people, based on those who last spoke. My kids and wife have now been using Zoom and that provides a much better interface to see 30+ views at a time. I might have to recommend our next Team Happy Hour be on Zoom.
- RobOKBronze Contributor
Same here!! It is hard to understate the value of this, and not just for HH but for all meetings!
- OLEDWorksCopper Contributor
We used Zoom for our Virtual Happy Hour as Teams did not allow for us to see each other all at once.

Thanks for posting this. I expect MSFT is losing business to competitors due to this alone. I have up-voted on Uservoice.

Matt Hooper , my company uses Webex which has a ton more features, including the ability to see dozens of faces at once. Zoom is also great, but I don't have much experience with it. Might not be worth it for MS to try to compete in that space. They should find a niche that Teams can fill distinctively.

It would be really great if we could have this facility.
We run hearings and can't really do this succesfully when you can't see everyone.
- stanusjCopper Contributor
Derek_Hart , you could try zoom - which does show all video participants, while waiting on Teams.
- Vladan01Copper Contributor
stanusj I would be rather cautious using Zoom for business because of privacy issues https://mashable.com/article/zoom-conference-call-work-from-home-privacy-concerns/?europe=true

Derek_Hart where are you doing hearings from? I'm interested because we are doing hearings in Texas and we can't use teams because the IT doesn't allow anyone outside the organization to participate. If you were able to convince your IT department to allow it, I would love to know how you did that. We're doing everything in Zoom. Sorry Zoom, not in love. It would be so much easier if we work with outside people also.

Hi,
As I am the Head of IT for my organisation I lead the decision about what tools are used to meet business requirements. Business requirements are paramount but IT should recommend the best tools to use to deliver those requirements so that the organisation can maintain a consistent IT strategic direction and tool-set.
We are one of the UK Health Care Regulators and used to do all in person Hearings from our central London Office. Since the pandemic we have done all virtual Hearings using Teams and numerous cases have been completed in that way. We are now restarting some physical Hearings where relevant parties agree (not sure on how that decision is made - it is a business decision not IT).
Our Microsoft Teams environment allows external people to use Teams so I guess that would be a simple setting change by IT in your environment.
You can use poor practice for anything and Zoom has received lots of poor press - but I suspect that is more about how it can be used badly. Zoom can be used securely and successfully.
However, I think Teams has a really good interface and links in really well with the rest of the Microsoft stack. The latest improvements (changing to 9 participants) and hand raising have improved it further, and future enhancements like showing more participants could make it great.
So we intend sticking with Teams. Good luck with your process.

- Cheri_BellCopper ContributorThis would be a good option to have more than 4 in a window.
- Derek_HartBrass Contributor
Hi Cheri - can you also vote on it to encourage Microsoft to work on please?
- No further updates here except that’s it coming but no ETA
Adam - WoodhousepCopper ContributorI would love this feature also!

- Mark_HwardCopper Contributor
how do you vote for this we want to use it instead of webex Derek_Hart
- Tomas-MCopper Contributor
I also need this feature. We need to show more than 4 meeting participants. I am being pressured by our employees to switch to Zoom because of this single feature absence.
Thank you.
- Derek_HartBrass Contributor
Hi Tomas - please also vote for this feature here:on the Microsoft link:
Given all of the apparent security holes in Zoom we are now seriously considering 8x8 and Cisco Webex which are offering free 90 day trials.
I hope Microsoft deliver this before we need to make the decision.
