Sharing links to files between teams - set up direct access or use sharing link?
Dear all,
let's say I'm working in Team A and have some files and folders in its document library that I would like to share with people from Team B. It seems there are two possibilities:
1) Sharing with a Sharing Link
Way 1 would be to open the document library in SharePoint and just share the file with the option "Specific people" and specify Team B as people. This creates a dedicated sharing link to the file with the requested permissions, for example looking like the following:
https://contoso.sharepoint.com/:x:/s/Teams.A/EbvfyEmmddPixECywbuJGOu921w?e=4R1iIJ
2) Sharing with Direct Access
Way 2 would be to open the document library in SharePoint, select the file or folder, choose Manage Access and add Team B under Direct Access. This seems to add the permissions directly to the file so the permissions are independent from the link. Access to the file then can be achived by using the direct link to it which for example looks like the following:
https://contoso.sharepoint.com/:x:/r/sites/Team.A/Shared%20Documents/Test/test.xlsx
My questions
a) What would be the preferred way to share content in that scenario? From my (IT) perspective, the second way (by using Direct Access) seems to be the cleaner approch as no additional sharing link needs to be generated. However, from a user perspective it is more complicated than just clicking on share and add the permissions there. Are there any advantages and disadvantages for each approach?
b) In case Team B receives the shared link (either the direct link or a sharing link) - is there any way in Teams to bookmark or pin the link within Teams so Team B can easily access it? I haven't found anything for this yet.
Thanks for any suggestions,
Michael

layer9de If I share the link or give direct access to Team B...is there a way to restrict so that the access is ONLY to the file or folder and not all content within the team? I find that once we give access with either way - it allows the user to back out and access everything in all channels. The goal is to share only a specific file/folder within one channel, without access to anything else.
Can this be done without moving all content to a new private channel and sharing the link knowing then they can see "everything" except what is in the private channel? It may be a backdoor fix for now, but not really what we want to do.
