SharePoint document set as Teams Tab

I been testing adding folders as a team tab and these work fine.  Also, adding a library that contains document set's also works fine and the document sets seem to browse and operate as expected.

When adding a document set URL it produces the error below.  The same exact process with a folder works.  It's a bit surprising this does not work as the document sets do work when adding the entire library however a specific document set like adding a folder does not work.  Any feedback is appreciated.

  • Still broken in 2026, and it isn't anything on your side.

The SharePoint tab only accepts sites, libraries, folders and pages. A document set is none of those. It's a list item with a content type, and its home page is an application page with a query string like /Forms/Document%20Set/docsethomepage.aspx?ID=42. The tab can't resolve that to a folder, so it rejects it. That's why the whole library works and a single set doesn't.

Workaround: add it with the Website tab instead and paste the docsethomepage URL. It renders fine, though it loads in an iframe and won't follow Teams dark mode.

Closer to native: add the library as a SharePoint tab and set the default view to filter to that document set. You lose the set's landing page and shared metadata, but the tab behaves properly.

In 2026, this is still an issue. Is there a workaround to add a document set as a tab in Teams?

  • My guess here is that the Developers that built the SharePoint tab didn't take into account this use case

There is an extremely rapid growth of technology and its applicable uses and you are experiencing this problem from my point of view because you are trying to share a web page entirely as it exists to your team and you do not obtain ownership of that web page instead I would create a document file and appropriate the proper text to identify that that is a link rather than a webpage

This is me in the above - I just don't understand the rules/requirements/what's being presented as it is.
