"Share system audio" in a Teams meeting has disappeared
- Mar 05, 2020
bynum It looks like the checkbox is removed but the the share audio button is still there.

Paul_McG In our Team where everyone works on a Mac we've got the same problem: there's no button to include system audio. What could be the problem?
I've looked into system settings (privacy and sharing) but I think that's all configured ok.
The button should be between "Beheer geven" and "Presenteren stoppen", right?

- AdamG1260Sep 17, 2020Copper ContributorOn a Mac you can achieve this using audio extensions like Blackhole or Soundflower (now supports MacOS Catalina). Both are free and open source but there are paid for alternatives out there too.
An basic example of how this can work:
1. Install Soundflower
2. Set Soundflower (2ch) as your system sound output device in MacOS sound preferences (the app your using to play video will now send it’s sound to Soundflower instead of your normal system speakers).
3. In Teams you go to settings, set Soundflower as your Mic and then share your screen and play the video (everyone will see your video through the screen share and hear it via Soundflower).
One issue is you won’t hear the audio yourself. That can be fixed using MIDI setting on the Mac as follows:
1. Open the Audio MIDI Setup app on your Mac.
2. Create a Multi-Output Device by clicking on the plus sign in the bottom left of the screen
3. Select your system speakers from the tick list on the right (do this first)
4. Select Soundflower (2ch) from the same list
5. Check the Drift Correction option for Soundflower (2ch)
6. Rename your multi-output device if you want.
Now set your system to play audio to this multi-output device. In your MS Teams settings keep your speakers as your systems speakers (don’t use the multi-output device otherwise you’ll generate echos) and set your mic as Soundflower (2ch). Everyone on the call will now hear your systems sounds, including the sounds from the video when you play it. You will also hear the system sounds though your own speakers.
Don’t forget to switch your mic back to your real mic when you want to speak again.

ydiaz025 ,
I added Zoom as an App. You should be able to find it on the left side bar in the "..." icon below Files.
You might have to set up a free Zoom account, but I am not sure about that.
Zoom is far better than Teams for video conferencing. Specially the Audio components and the ability to share videos with audio.Hope this helps!

danilomezzadri I'm curious how to get the Zoom to work inside the Teams? My school district requires us to use Teams but I feel like Zoom has so many features that teams is lacking. This might be a great option.

Thanks for the information! It looks I will have to go back to running the Zoom app inside Teams to be able to do my music classes. What a drag....

My bet is that Microsoft is finding it more of a challenge on Mac to get this to work than on Windows. Audio is handled very differently on Mac. I found a way to potentially make it work using this: https://existential.audio/blackhole/

Thanks for the info LinusCansby . I am a Mac user (and a teacher) and this was driving me crazy. At least now I know that there is nothing for me to do. I hope they fix this soon...
- mattias242Apr 08, 2020Copper ContributorWell that's a creative way to "solve" things. Better KPI for the team? Not better for Mac users.

LinusCansby , what brought me here to verify that it's not implemented (any more) on macOS was that I got a notice that my user voice vote had been "combined" with an existing user voice item -- one that is "partially fulfilled." That is, fulfilled on Windows but not on macOS.
- LinusCansbyApr 07, 2020MVPVote and comment at the uservoice page, it might get some more attention then.

LinusCansby Thanks for your quick reply.
Too bad it's not a priority for them. It has nearly been half a year now. Hope they implement it very soon, for all those teachers on a Mac.
- Apr 06, 2020Yeah I just verified with another Mac user they don't have either, thanks for clarification on that.
