Scheduling Meetings in Private Channels
Hi,
Can anyone confirm this this works, or indeed doesn't? I can't seem to schedule meetings into Private Channels, but can't find if this should actually work.
Thanks,
- Hi sp-jmglade
Currently, you can't schedule meetings in private channels.
As stated in the article
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/MicrosoftTeams/private-channels
We're continually adding capabilities to private channels so check back for the most up-to-date information regarding apps, channel meetings, and scaling private channels for large teams
You can however do meet now's in private channels
Hope that answers your question!
Best, Chris

Yes please! This is such a basic feature. I'm being sent in circles because I want to schedule a meeting in our Teams calendar but only include specific people. Other threads suggest:- Making people who aren't invited wait in the lobby (not a good option, just creates frustration for them)
- Excluding the Teams channel from the meeting and only entering the required attendees you want (not actually possible, see screenshot below)
- Scheduling the meeting in a Teams channel instead of general (Ok but this is only possible if the channel isn't private apparently? And we're talking about a private channel. We do not want to create a duplicate "public" channel just to schedule meetings!!)

Any update on this ... it's now August 2022, this thread started in March 2020 ...

sp-jmglade Why roll out private Teams if features are so limited? I've deleted and reset up Teams and meetings because my entire Team was getting unnecessary notification only to find that I CANNOT use private channels to set up future meetings!! What a waste of time. There should be a warning attached to the private teams option: LISTING FEATURES NOT AVAILABLE WITH PRIVATE CHANNELS
Hi all,
Still currently under review (was moved over from Uservoice)
Support channel meetings in Private Channels · Community (microsoft.com)
In terms of a workaround, you can simply go into the private channel, start a meet now, copy the link to the meeting and then put that link into a recurring cal entry in Outlook :D.
Best, Chris
- LizP1Iron ContributorI sort of like that as a workaround - better than anything else so far!

Everyone--please vote for this feature in the user forum! Here's the link: EDU: Enable private channels to schedule meetings
Maybe the more upvotes will get them moving on it. Silly not to have it available.
- Sundaresanc2270Copper ContributorI still surprised what made them to drop a normal functionality that works for a Team Channel and under what reason they must have restricted this option for Private channels? Do private channel members will not meet in advance? How do they assume all private channel meetings are all instant meetings? Do not assume something on behalf of People and restrict a normal functionality that works well in normal circumstances.

sp-jmgladeWe start a meeting in a privat channel; create meeting; copie link and send link to participants and use this meeting for al. not realy nice, but works

+1 on this functionality!! sp-jmglade ChrisHoardMVP
Of incredible value for both education and support staff. Please prioritize this feature! Even if it is not possible to switch between private and public settings for the meeting: just being able to create a meeting with private channel is a much needed feature.

This is such an obvious and critical functionality that I really cannot understand why it is not implemented. In my University we have integrated Teams with our information system in such a way that we have one Team per course (we have more the 6 thousand courses each year) and then have private channels within each Team for each class. A course can have multiples classes each one with different students and different schedules...
Not to be able to schedule meetings (classes) in a practical manner, within a private channel, is a really serious setback that can jeopardize our adoption of Teams until this issue is solved.
