No more background blur
- Mar 19, 2020
Thierry Barthel I actually did some digging - blur does have a technical requirement :
The optional Blur my background video effect requires a processor with Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (AVX2) support. (Taken from here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/hardware-requirements-for-the-teams-app)
My PC that I am facing this issue on has an older CPU that doesn't have AVX2.
Potentially this technical requirement may not have been enforced previously but that may have changed it seems but it explains why i don't have the capability any longer - works fine on my other devices that have this capability.
How about the machine you are working from?
Looks like this very feature will come back very shortly.
DId anyone see the latest announcement of custom backgrounds?
https://office365itpros.com/2020/04/06/teams-meeting-background-image/
One of the options is BLUR background, so maybe they kind of baked this feature into the new change background overall strategy?
OR does this mean, custom backgrounds will also work with beefier CPUs?? That would be a shame....

Adamski74it was working before with the same processor as i have right now!
The processor story is non-sense. I have had background blur with this CPU, it was working.
This is why i believe it is another sales argument to buy new hardware.

Carol_CrumlinControl + Shift + P is just a shortcut. Does not work on older processors as discussed above.

Harald Steindl Still not working for me. Continuing to rely on XSplit Vcam, which is not so bad aftrer all (got it via StackSocial, half price).
- Harald SteindlMay 14, 2020Brass ContributorSo, you are saying, that they just killed the UI so you cannot choose the option but the shortcut via keyboard still works??
That would be hilarious.... - Carol_CrumlinMay 14, 2020Copper Contributor
I posted a work around . Control + Shift + P works to Blur background (and also unblur). However I have just checked and although I no longer has Blur Background I do have Background and the first 'screen' is a Blur image. Hope the work around works for you. I worked for 3 out 4 of my colleagues.

I concur, snap camera sucks, it is gimmicky at best. Maybe if you dig long enough you could find some snap filters that look reasonably professional, but for me at least the performance was severely lacking. Constant freezes and lag.

Patricio Lobos No thanks, but I prefer Team's built-in features. I don't want to install an additional application just to get background effects.

Patricio Lobos I tested this Snap Camera app. There is indeed a blur background filter available... But it is nowhere near what the filter in Teams (or now Skype, it is available in Skype) did. The background with Snap Camera is still highly recognizable (hence useless for me unless you want to have fun with the crazy rainbow filters and other kid stuff). So for fun and familly yes, for work, a huge no no.

DaithiG Hi David, look at my reply above, you don't need that (AVX2) regardless of the official information. Just use snapschat camera and follow the instructions as I mentioned above. This will be I guess eventually resolve by Microsoft, but in the meantime it is better to use this shortcut.

Adamski74 look at my reply above, this is not the case you don't need that. Just use https://snapcamera.snapchat.com/ and you will have all the effects, etc.
