Microsoft Teams Temporary Story of Recordings
Hey there,
i got a question of one of my clients regarding teams storage of recordings if employees dont have access to one drive for business.
Where is this data stored if i am located in the emea region, germany.
And how is this data protected ?
Means can someone from Microsoft get access to my recordings ?
Can government ask microsoft for assistance in granting access to my recordings ?
Is there any type of encryption on my recordings so that only the person who started the recording and the participants have access to it ?
And where is this beeing stored when for example the meeting is planned in germany but also participants from the us region are beeing part of the meeting ?
Thanks for youre help,
best regards and thanks you.

- Hello, I can't give you the details so you should reach out to Microsoft for that. But..
1. If no license for ODFB/SP the recording will be stored in Azure Media Services for 21 days before automatic deletion, you can access the recording from Teams.
2. It is stored in your Azure GEO.
3. Data is encrypted by Microsoft with all high-level encryption standards. You can read more if you search the MS Docs.
4. Encryption is not the same as permissions. Only the invited people will have access to the recording.
5. No, Microsoft can't access your recording. Well technically, yes, but no. You also have what's called "Customer lockbox" for preventing just that. Already available for EXO/ODFB/SP and in March for Teams as well. I suppose NSA in US could "file a request" to access that recording but it would have to be based on something and also go through the legal process with Microsoft. Not sure how that works to be honest.
6. The initiating org. (host) is where the recording would be stored.
