@mention someone in Chats in order to add one to the conversation
I don't see a way to "mention" people within a MS Teams chat. If I type "@" I don't see list of names. I'd like to be able to mention people that are already added to the chat. Is that possible?
Thanks,
- Sep 08, 2017You can't @ in chat, but you can in a team conversation. I guess I'm in 2 minds as to whether you would want to @ in chat, if this invited them to your chat they would see all that went before and this might not be what you want.

The inconsistency of not being able to \@mention someone in a chat is frustrating. It kinda looks like it's working, because it highlights and emboldens the following word, but it really isn't doing anything. Am I mentioning the guy or not? I have no **bleep** idea? The UI needs work. MS should make it more clear how mentioning is done.

Agree, very not intuitive, MS need to try harder if they want to dethrone Slack

Microsoft
Adding someone to a chat does not actually give them visibility of all the chat history that happened before they were added. This is different than how it works in Channel conversations inside a Team, where you do get prior history when added as a member.
I believe you cannot tag people in Chat right now because all that tagging controls is the firing of notifications, and in Chat all conversation already fires a notification. The tagging mechanism is not used to add people to any sort of permissions or membership currently.
