In my opinion this answer is not the best response as it suggests to request as a new feature what I understand is the normal behaviour as explained in subsequent answers.
The behaviour reported by JohnHolzman is the expected behaviour. You just have to make sure that the Microsoft 365 Group associated to the problematic Teams team has a particular setting turned off. Specifically the setting "Send copies of team email and events to team member inboxes" as shown in the picture below:Once you or your systems admin turn that opcion off for the affected team, only invited users will get invites in that team's channel meetings.
I hope this helps

I'm looking for a solution to this as well. I checked out the setting in admin and that feature you mentioned is unchecked but all members are still receiving meeting invites.

When you uncheck the refered setting, new team or group members will not receive invitations but that will not affect users that were members previous to unchecking.
Those users will have to change this behavour manually in their Outlooks.
- In Outlook, look for the Goups area on the left at the bottom of the folder tree.
- Select the problematic group and on the resulting page, click on the 3 dots to the right of the "Send email" option and select Settings, as seen on the image below
- On the right panel that shows up, select "Receive only replies to you" or "Don't receive any group messages".
Also, to make sure all your teams/groups are set to not autosubscribe members, you can use the PS script in this link by Tony Redmond; https://office365itpros.com/2023/09/08/teams-channel-meeting-invites/amp/
I hope this helps.

StaceeFraneDo you know if this feature request has been dropped? This is hugely limiting the functionality of channels.
- PatrickK7Oct 04, 2023Copper ContributorNot sure why this is best response. Feedback was given, voted on and then removed (it now leads to a 404). So it seems we're back to square one on this?
This issue is impacting my department's need to use Team channels effectively. Do you know when it will be addressed?- PatrickK7Oct 04, 2023Copper ContributorI found the following related feedback: https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/idea/f8013a70-f107-ed11-a81b-6045bd7d68ae
Hopefully this one doesn't 404 - please vote on it everyone!- asdroliasMay 16, 2024Copper Contributor
The feature request is not available anymore. Does anyone knows if Microsoft has officially dumped this feature request? This is hugely limiting the functionality of channels.

Hi StaceeFrane.
Frankly, this shouldn't be a feature request. There's enough evidence on the web for Microsoft to see that their app is working the opposite way people expect it to, and is 1) causing massive amounts of chaos if people try to use it and 2) dissuades people from creating meetings in Teams channels. I've got a customer who is now creating separate Teams to pull off having meetings in channels instead of private chats, whereas before he was using a single Team and trying to invite members of the team to specific meetings. Because everyone in the Team gets an invite whether they're invited or not, the only recourse if he wants to keep his content in an actual Team is to create wasteful separate Teams...ugh what a headache.

did anyone find a solution or a workaround for this?
- gfr_jdMar 27, 2023Copper Contributor
StaceeFrane I don't think this is a "new feature" this is very much a bug
- GussyJGFeb 13, 2023Brass ContributorThis isn't a request for a new feature its highlighting a bug in the latest version
- David_May_PwCApr 29, 2024Copper Contributor
GussyJG StaceeFrane This definitely seems like a bug as I am able to:
1: Invite specific users in the interface
2: Remove users after a meeting has been setThe system somewhat complies, but will add the users back over time. When and who from all the channel users gets added back seems to be somewhat arbitrary.
- MruggieriMar 08, 2023Copper ContributorIs anyone aware of any updates on this bug fix?
- SharonFryMar 08, 2023Brass ContributorSeems there isn't any yet: https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/idea/ae9d65c4-90af-ec11-a81c-0022485066fe
- OfficeChampionJan 12, 2023Copper ContributorHas someone suggested this feature? If yes, is there a link available, where i can vote?
