Have you tried going to the SharePoint site behind your team and adding the items to the Events calendar there .. . then either add it to the SharePoint home page there or grab the URL to the events calendar which should be something like this:
https://yoursitename.sharepoint.com/sites/TeamName/Events/calendar.aspx
Then you can add this link to a tab for them to view. Just old fashioned SharePoint calendar list sharing through the Teams interface. I would expect that to work just fine.
