Excel documents Crash when using "Open in App" from Teams
Hi,
My Excel documents are saved in Teams.
If I open them from Teams by clicking "Open in Desktop App" they randomly close along with all other Excel files I have opened from other places.
The work is usually autosaved, but it is annoying and once it starts to happen, it keeps happening.
I saw on another thread that instead of opening the desktop app from Teams I should try clicking "Open in Browser" and from there, click "Open in Desktop App." So far this seems to work.
The only problem is that some of the files I need to use are Password Protected. When viewing those files in Teams I do not have the option "Open in Browser"
Please assist.
Thank you!
Recently I have seen in influx of my users experiencing their system hanging when trying to work in Excel. We also utilize Teams, this is all tied together through o365. When using both at the same time the machine is barley usable. Now When I close Excel and Quit Teams and then open Excel and then open Teams everything works as it should. This is the work around I have been using for the past 2 weeks or so. Today I have had about 5 new cases to apply the work around to and noticed that all the machines have the KB5005565 / Servicing Stack 10.0.19041.1220 installed on them and my machine [normal] does not. I was going to see if a roll back to a previous restore point would shed a better light on the issue but my test machine did not have a restore date prior to last week. So if someone has this update [KB5005565 / Servicing Stack 10.0.19041.1220] and is experiencing the same issue, please first create a restore point and then roll back to before the install date [Sept 16 or 17 2021]and see if the Excel / Teams issue goes away and let us know please.
*NOTE: Also before applying the work around I forgot to check the status bar in Excel to see if any other process was using it at the time. Maybe have a look to see if there is any indication that Teams is using Excel.
- This is not necessarily a Teams issue but you can always reinstall the desktop app or check for updates and sign out / back in manually to refresh cache and settings. I would probably repair the Office suite as well https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/repair-an-office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b
- A_D_RCopper ContributorThank you for the quick reply. My computer was re-imaged a few weeks ago in an effort to fix this issue. In the process of re-imaging it all apps were freshly installed. Does that provide any more context?
- Perhaps better to open a support ticket with Microsoft. Your IT admin can assist with that.
