No, unfortunately this is how it works! They need to switch over in order to read messages and the notifications from other tenants is pretty flawed! Often you first discover it when you get a mail about a missed message!
I’d suggest using a browser session and stay logged in at the customer tenant teams alongside with your desktop client! That way you have both up and running simultaneously and get notifications
