You won't be able to directly chat (External chat) with another company. As Free Teams to Paid Teams link is not there. However, what you can do is get invited to a Team at the other company and once you are a guest. You will be able to use e-mail address of anyone in the company and then chat with them when you are switched to that tenant (upper right corner drop down that appears after accepting a guest invite).
