Cannot Join Teams Meeting via Desktop Client on Mac

I have had this exact issue - on a 2020 Macbook Air - MacOS and Teams both up to date. I had a job interview and tried joining the Teams meeting from within the Teams calendar "Join Meeting" link... it said I need to join via browser. I have Firefox as my default browser, but don't see why i need to open a browser at all!... when I was using a corporate teams account I never had any issues. Now I am using my paid for personal office subscription to access Teams and it's useless for joining an external meeting. In the end I had to ask the interviewer to join my personal meeting room - which worked fine. Has anyone found a solution yet?
