It seems this feature is not possible for now. I was unable to reproduce it at my end.
Unless others have an idea, feel free to visit https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/ where you can provide your suggestion and feedback. The development team continuously monitors this portal. If Microsoft ever pick it, you will get notified.
