Automatic updating teams files from a shared drive

Question

Hi I wonder if you can assist me. I have a shared drive that I would like to share onto teams. I would also like teams to automatically record any updates I make on the shared drive on any file or document. How do I do this?

Do you mean a shared drive on your local network?If so, It’s not possibe! You need to upload those files to Teams (SharePoint) What do you mean by record updates??

Yes from a local shared network. So you have update manually the files via SharePoint or straight to Teams?

Hi benpace-87&nbsp;,&nbsp;Basis behind file sharing in Teams and SharePoint is you move your files into Teams, give everyone access&nbsp; and then remove them from Shared drives.&nbsp;&nbsp;You can still sync the file structure to your devices but the master copies are always in Teams/SharePoint.&nbsp;

Andrew Hodges do you have to upload all the files from the shared drive manually to teams? Also once this has been done are you saying to use teams as your main shared network? Rather than the local shared network. Thanks

Hi&nbsp;benpace-87&nbsp;,&nbsp;You can manually upload them but there are migration tools available. Microsoft provide 2 free:-&nbsp;https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepointmigration/introducing-the-sharepoint-migration-tool&nbsp;https://mover.io/&nbsp;My tool of choice is ShareGate as it has many enterprise features and I have used it on over 10 projects so far.&nbsp;&nbsp;Shared Drives are definitely replaced by Teams/SharePoint, the only thing you may keep them for is very large files or for interfacing with other systems that require import/exports from Shared Drives.&nbsp;
