When not to purchase Copilot Studio
Copilot agents are everywhere and for everyone.
They are experts on a topic, able to talk to other agents, start an automation, and complete tasks for you.
Agents can boost team productivity and process efficiency.
Productivity dreams may come true with agents. That's how the need to use and create agents increases every day.
✅ Stay calm and read further before making any purchase decision on the M365 admin center.
It may save you over 224,64 EUR monthly with a 1-year upfront commitment. 👇
Who can create agents, and how?
M365 Copilot licensed users can create agents using Copilot Studio.
Although the creation is not available for M365 Copilot non-licensed users, they can add and interact with agents.
Nowadays, the easiest way to create Copilot agents is as follows:
- Use the built-in version of Copilot Studio.
- Do not start from scratch. Instead, use an agent template like the Prompt Coach to build your own.
Why do agents bridge the gap between M365 Copilot licensed and non-licensed users?
Agents are an excellent option for providing M365-Copilot non-licensed users access to Copilot capabilities grounded on organizational data.
Even if users are not licensed with M365 Copilot, they can benefit from Copilot grounded on organizational data via agents.
Can I purchase Copilot Studio?
Copilot Studio is a no-code Power Platform tool that allows the creation of Copilot agents.
The M365 Copilot add-on license already includes licensing for Copilot Studio. You can find it as Copilot Studio in M365 Copilot.
There are 3 different ways to license Copilot Studio:
🤖 Copilot Studio pay-as-you-go meter: 0.01 USD per message (no upfront commitment)
🤖 Copilot Studio message packs: 200 USD per tenant, per month
🤖 Copilot Studio in M365 Copilot: 30 USD per user, per month
Nevertheless, there's a product called Microsoft Copilot Studion on the purchase services on M365 Admin Center. I am not quite sure, what this product is for. If you know it, please let me know in the comments.
🛑 The challenge is:
Microsoft Copilot Studio on the M365 admin center purchase services can easily be mistaken for Copilot Studio in M365 Copilot. Be cautious!

Invoice of the last period PAYG
You can no longer see the details in PowerPlatform Admin Center, probably because of the cancellation.
Azure
Details of the next period until cancellation.

Details on the message consumption of the new production environment created on 15.3.2025
Summary of all environments
Depending on the view, these messages are “reported” as overruns. However, there are no precise definitions of the consequences of overruns and what the tolerance is. It will be interesting to see how this continues. 😉
I do not have added a non-license test user to my tenant.
mande1191Thanks for sharing. Your invoice looks quite cheap. I thought it was going to be more expensive.
Just attended our APPE montly meetup on autonomous agents with Kristian Ndou. He said one thing is for sure: Double-billing will not occur.- mande1191Iron Contributor
Also an interesting thing. I have now received the invoice for March for PAYG for the “Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat” environment. I noticed that this and the last invoice were for Dataverse and not messages. This is not illogical from my point of view, as “Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat” is included in my “Microsoft 365 Copilot” license and I am the only user. Nevertheless, I am a little surprised that there are costs for Dataverse. I no longer actively use the environment and would like to delete it. Unfortunately, there is no delete option.

Thank you very much. You know that I am working intensively with this theme. 🙃 My extensive research with Copilot shows the following result regarding “Microsoft Copilot Studio Version Market Place”: “This is a standalone option. It is aimed at users who specifically want to use Copilot Studio features without needing a full Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription.”.
This answer might be correct from my point of view.
You also know that I am looking into message capacity and message consumption within a “Copilot Studio in M365 Copilot”, or rather researching together with Copilot. The results are not yet consistent, but they are already huge. 🙃
By the way, I'm expecting my second PAYG invoice for around CHF3 (Swiss Francs) soon. I had provisionally set up PAYG for a new environment, but then canceled it again (unfortunately, the new environment cannot simply be “canceled”). 🙃
Best regards
Andreas
Andreas, mande1191, I would love to hear the details about your invoice. Have you tracked consumption, too?
As far as I understand, the PAYG starts counting for M365 Copilot license users if Agents + Automated actions are used.
Have you added a non-license test user to your tenant? That would be an interesting thing to try with Copilot Studio. But be careful - there is a one-year commitment. If you go for the trial - at least in my case - I never received a notification the trial ended it. Instead, I received an invoice. I was lucky I got everything refunded, but it was not a pleasant experience.

I would imagine it’s Amelia’s handwriting, but the writing certainly sounds like Amelia. It would be interesting to know if any of this is AI or enhanced like the writing!
Was this content AI generated? joking AI don't do hand writing🙂
No, it's just me with grammarly in a couple of sentences. But yes, that's an awesome idea for a Copilot agent.
Thr challenge: I like to wrrite myself. So I would to identify parts of the process I don't like and let AI do it for me. Like the publishing for example... 🤔

Learned about more features at the MVP Summit - we will eventually be able to share what's coming soon. Look forward to hosting others for JTTC (Journey To The Cloud) in April!
