Backup and recovery of the contacts and messages on COBO Android devices
Hi all,
Our company has recently implemented a policy requiring all Android mobile devices to be enrolled as Company Owned, Business Only (COBO) devices. This policy is crucial for maintaining the security and integrity of our business data.
Many of our users, particularly those who are external, have numerous business and customer contacts, as well as messages linked to their work. To ensure continuity, we have imported contacts from their old Workspace accounts to the mobile Outlook application. This allows for synchronization on newly enrolled devices.
However, we have encountered a challenge with new contacts and messages. Users need to be able to fully recover any new Google contacts or messages if their device is lost, wiped, or replaced. Unfortunately, this is not currently possible with the COBO profile. Each time a device is enrolled, a new random account is generated. Furthermore, users cannot log into their current account on a browser to export data, as this option is not available for COBO accounts.
Can someone advise about reasonable solution?

When using Outlook you create the contacts in Outlook and if you need them in the Native contact app you use the following setting:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/clients-and-mobile-in-exchange-online/outlook-for-ios-and-android/outlook-for-ios-and-android-configuration-with-microsoft-intune#general-app-configuration-scenarios and than section in table called; 'Save (or Sync) Contacts'.
It's far from ideal but that is the only way that sort of works..

Thanks Sebastian. We are setting all android devices to sync contracts from Outlook by default but unfortunately this is not solution for new contacts created by the users in native contact application.
