Server 2010 SP3 with Hybrid Server 2016 Compatibility
Hi All,
We have a Hybrid environment with Exchange 2010 SP3 (Mbx, Hub, CAS all in one server) connected to AAD Connect and the Office 365 tenant. We are about to complete migrating all the On-Prem mailboxes to Exchange Online. But I’m aware we are not able to remove the Exchange server because of AAD Connect and user management purposes.
TechNet tells Exchange 2016 can be coexisted with Exchange 2010 SP3 RU11. I’m eligible to download the Hybrid Server 2016 edition as well.
My question is, Can I introduce the Hybird 2016 Edition Server to my current environment right now? Will it play well with the Exchange 2010 Server until I remove it after migrating the last mailbox?
Thanks,
Shehan.
Hi Shehan,
Yes you can coexist Exchange 2016 with Exchange 2010 that is in your environment.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I think we need to go with the co-existing option. - But the think here is that if you need to remove your Exchange 2010 OnPrem deployment, this is something you can do. See this: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/exchange/2012/12/05/decommissioning-your-exchange-2010-servers-in-a-hybrid-deployment/
- Shehan PereraCopper ContributorHi Juan,
Thanks for the link. I agree with you but basically we need to keep the identity management as it is. So I guess co-existence option might be a good idea and we can remove the 2010 server after confirming everything is done.
