problems closing my 365 account

I have a microsoft 365 personal account and I want to close it because my wife opened a 365 family account which she has invited me to. I'm having multiple problems trying to do this, and could use some help. Here's what I'm doing:

- Clicking the 'Join Now' invite from my wife to join her family subscription. Eventually, I get the following message: "Looks like you already have a subscription. In order to join this Microsoft 365 Family subscription, you’ll need to cancel your current subscription. In the meantime, you can still choose to join the family group."

- Clicking the "Join Family Group" button results in a new error: "Hmm... It looks like you're already in a family group. You'll need to leave your current family group before you can join a new one.
Go to family.microsoft.com and sign in, find your name, then select Leave family group. Return to the invite you received and join the new family group."

- When I go to family.microsoft.com, sign in, find my name and select 'Leave family group', I get the following error: "Something went wrong. We’re having trouble and can’t remove Jim from your family group right now. Refresh or wait and try again". I've tried waiting and refreshing, and even signing out/back in but I still cannot remove myself from the group.

- Thinking this may have something to do with there being family members still in the family group, I tried deleting all family members, which I'm able to do except for one child. When I try to delete him, I get the following error: "You can't remove Ethan from the family group. Family members under statutory age need an adult's consent to join a family group. Only the adult that granted consent for Ethan can remove this family member. Ask the family organizer who granted Ethan consent to remove Ethan from the family group."

There is no other, nor has there ever been another, family organizer/adult member of this family group. So, I don't understand how I'm getting this error.

Any idea how I can resolve this issue?
