Personal Templates directed to sharepoint online in Policies for Office apps

In Endpoint Management under Policies for Office Apps I have some custom templates that I would like to be set on users computers for Word and Powerpoint.  Without syncing to the local system via OneDrive is it possible to direct the Personal Templates path directly to my sharepoint site or do I need to first sync to the local machine and have the users point to that location instead?  Thank you in advance.   Currently when I try to put the sharepoint link Word only shows the label for what my sharepoint site is but no templates appears.
