Outlook for Android not syncing contacts automatically

As far as I know, this is a real problem. Outlook only syncs one way. I just learned this on my new Google pixel phone. If you make a change in the native Contact App it will NOT show up in your Outlook People app. Total sucks!
I have set all selttings in Outlook to sync calendar and contacts, and on the phone to allow syncing. Still doens't work.
