one note keeps asking for login

every time I try to open my notebooks the onenote app keeps asking me to login and verify with code sent to mobile. Then I still can't open the notebook. I have cleared passwords from keychain and it keeps reoccurring. I can access my files on onenote online but not on the application.

  • Hi Alana,

The login loop you’re experiencing with OneNote is frustrating!

    - Ensure your OneNote app is fully updated. This can sometimes resolve issues related to repeated logins.

    - Since you’ve cleared passwords from Keychain, you may need to delete any OneNote or Microsoft credentials in your Mac’s Keychain Access that might be outdated or causing conflicts.

    - Open Keychain Access (found in Applications > Utilities), search for “Microsoft” and delete OneNote-specific entries.

Let me know if this helps or if you’d like further assistance!

  • if the OneNote notebook is hosted on M365 can you login to the web version and verify you have access? When you do that, you'll find an option on that page to open on the desktop. That should then open locally and restore the connection if there was a problem.

alana1999 Therefore the issue lies with the install of OneNote. Sounds to me like you are going to need to uninstall OneNote and remove any cache and registry settings and do a completely clean install. You may also want to check any AV or other applications running in the background that could be interfering with OneNote. My guess is a caching issue, so clearing that totally seems to be what needs to be done to solve your issues. Of course, if this is OneNote from an M365 commercial tenant you can always log a call with MS to help you resolve. Unfortunately, I'm not a Mac person so I can't give you anything more specific - sorry.
