Migration Challenge
I'm figuring out the best way for a Exchange on-prem to Exchange Online migration without any 3th party tools.
The current tenant have existing users in the cloud with Cloud-Only identity's and we now want to migrate the current exchange environment (Exchange 2007) to the cloud. We're thinking of PST migration but the current exchange version only support manual export of the PST files :smileysad:

What Dean meant with the FastTrack program is that you can involve Microsoft and get guidance/assistance from them for the actual migration. For free. So definitely look at that option.
Anyway, with Exchange 2007 you are definitely not limited to only Cutover. Staged migration will also work, or you can even introduce a 2010 server and do a Hybrid. If the accounts are already provisioned in the cloud, you can use the soft-match mechanism to "link" them to on-prem users as detailed here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2641663

Just wanted to add to VasilMichev that the number of mailboxes to be migrated (< 2000) is also important. If there are more than 2000 mailboxes then a hybrid approach is suggested. Also check if public folders are being used in your 2007 tenant as well. If so, then you should figure out if you need to migrate these public folders as well.
- Dean_GrossSilver ContributorI don' t understand what you mean by "to the cloud (exchange 2007)".
Have you looked into the FastTrack program, see http://fasttrack.microsoft.com/- Jos MullerCopper Contributor
Hi Dean,
The on-prem environment is Exchange 2007. Just edit the message to be clear.
I've been looking at the fasttrack path and there i found that i must do a cutover migration. But this isn't possible while there are existing users in the online tenant that will cause an error.
So i'm now looking at a methode to migrate the mailboxes to an existing user in the cloud. So far i know i can't also use the staged migration because that need an hybrid identity.
- Are these users in Office 365 already using Exchange Online? If the answer is yes and you cannot use third party tools, then you will have to go for the PST approach. Take a look also about what Office 365 Import Service could do in this scenario
