Linking text or excel tables between documents on onedrive?

Is it possible to copy and paste a table from from Excel into word and have it update automatically if changes are made to the Excel file while storing the files on OneDrive?

I have the files synced to my local computer and am editing them there, and able to copy and paste the link successfully into a word and everything seems fine. But when I close the files and reopen the word document fillings always break. I had no luck solving this problem on my own and I am hoping someone here has.
