Is it possible to move the Search Box in Outlook to another position ?
Hello,
We found that the Search Box was moved into the title bar of our desktop Outlook 365. Is it possible to change its position ?
Cheers
Nope. Although they've gone through several iterations on this, so it might change in the future.

Just adding my annoyance with this change to this thread. Please put the search bar back where it goes Microsoft. There is nothing useful about where it is! This is so annoying!

Location of the search bar is awful. Put it back.

Our update was done yesterday. This is the most annoying one because I can't fix it. I had to fix the following: .pptx files were no longer recognized as Powerpoint files. They made the pop out so big for new mail, with outlook open, it went from being mildly annoying to a nuisance. So I figured out how to disable it completely. I'm sure there is more to discover.

This change is absolutely horrible. It takes so many more steps to search something now. Multiple clicks and typing and it is not clear or intuitive, nor can i pin my preferences on the search bar. Please allow users an option to move this back to where it was!

@Zidong_NIE To bad there isn't a forum that we could use to put in a complaint about this. I -still- find myself going to the wrong spot to search in Outlook. So frustrating. Can we report it as a bug?

ThanksZidong_NIE
- JimmanBrass ContributorYes, what a horrible design! When you start a search, the drop down totally obscures the Search Ribbon!
- MindfullimprovementsCopper ContributorYes its in a terrible position - no access to any filters without clicking all around the screen!

Zidong_NIE Indeed a terrible move. It is a unnatural setting to me and really annoying. So annoying that I really tried to find a way to get it back to any better location. Hard to belief it is not possible, but I am giving up. Guess I just have to comply to a poorly designed feature and get annoyed multiple time a day using it 😞
- PPerkinsBrass ContributorI agree. It is too close to the top and the screen keeps reducing to a tiny box. At first I couldn't find it. Worst "improvement" I've seen.

The search box move by Microsoft in Outlook is extremely bad design. This change does not have the user in mind since it was helpful to have the search box directly above the emails you are searching.I hope they reconsider this poor design change.

Sorry for the necro - not sure if it's still relevant to you, but there's actually a solution:Running this regedit, will get the searchbar back to the old location:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\ExperimentConfigs\Ecs\outlook\ConfigContextData]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\ExperimentConfigs\FirstSession\outlook]Credit goes to GuardianAngel https://www.tenforums.com/microsoft-office-365/157120-disable-new-search-bar-office-365-a-post1950420.html#post1950420Kind regards- MeersbrookCopper Contributor
pr0p41n3can you post the exact changes the registry makes so that we're not forced to register on tenforums?

Zidong_NIE It's such a retrograde step. They obviously didn't actually try and use it.

Something I find interesting is that they did ask some of us to evaluate it while it was in beta. Either people did not provide feedback (I did) or they didn't take the feedback seriously. I would be shocked if people said they liked the change.

dioadmin They actually did beta test it. I provided feedback then saying it would be a bad move. So, either they did not listen to feedback, or there were not enough people saying it was a bad move.
I imagine if enough people complain now, they'll either move it back or provide an option to configure location.
