Filtering upcoming events on Communication sites?
Hi there,
How can I filter upcoming events on Communication sites?
Lets say I am organizing a townwide event, with activities in different locations in the city, thoughout a day. On the front page of my Communication sites all activities shows up in the upcoming event Webpart, which is all good. Now, I have 5 different locations where there are activities respectively. I would like to create page for each of these locations where there is info about the location as well as a filtered view of activities on that specific location. Perhaps I am just not seeing the forest because of all the trees, but cannot seem to find how I can filter, as it only filters on this week, this month, etc...any suggestions?

You cant filter the view on Location, but you can on Category. I would suggest using this in addition to location to create your filtered views. You can type anything in as a new catogory when you create an event, it'll then be available in the category filter for the part.

Hi Steven Collier, thanks for your feedback and that works, eg, I can filter on all category = conserts. However, back to my example, then I would have to do it the way around then to create one page for the different activities, but from a "audience" point of view, if they are going to one certain part of the city where there will be several activites they would then have to go to the different activities pages and search for the location. Of course, I am problematizing this now, as for instance each location could just write their program on each page, or create a queery, or whatnot.
My point is that it would be nice with more options for filtering in addition to the standard name of list/category/date.The possibility to filter items with a few tags is part of the SharePoint Magic! ;-) Could we put this on a wishlist somewhere somehow, please?
Sorry I don't understand. Use Category to represent location, not that it's a concert or whatever. The category field is just metadata that can be used as a filter, in your example the only thing you wanted to filter by was where it was, so I would use Category for that.

- Basically you will be able to apply any setting that modern WebParts provide to you...if the setting you are looking for is not provided by the WebParts, then you have to build your own one or just wait until Microsoft provides the feature in its WebParts
