FAQ: Changing public offers to private plan - and using flat pricing + metered billing

Q: I am a partner who is ready to publish in the marketplace. I want to work only with private offers and want to create a public offer with 0 price and then offer private offers to customers that are interested in my product with real prices - and use flat pricing + metered billing in my plan.

What happens if a customer goes and subscribes to my public offering, and then I want to change that to private offer with the same plan. If I order a public offering with price of X, then accept a private offering with price of Y – the price will be Y. Correct?

Based on some testing I did, I think it would work, but since I don't have the ability to verify billing, I was wondering if you know of any issues with the above approach.

A: This may be a question of workflow.

  1. Customer subscribes to the $0 plan
  2. Ask for the person's contact info on the landing page to confirm
  3. DO NOT activate the new subscription
  4. Contact the customer and work out the private offer
  5. Customer subscribes to the Private Offer
  6. Activate the subscription from the Private Offer
