Why is my =SUM equation not giving the correct total?

I have the following numbers in the following cells

 

A1 97

A2 39

A3 66

A4 43

A5 43

A6 53

A7 45

A8 56

A9 17

 

In A10 I have the following equation =SUM((A1:A8)+(A9*5)

 

In my notebook the answer is 527 but in Excel this equation gives the answer as 1122

    Hi,

     

    You did not put a parenthesis at the end of your formula. So your formula should be this:

     

    =SUM((A1:A8)+(A9*5))

    or this:

    =SUM(A1:A8 + A9*5)

    Your fomula adds A9*5 to every value in A1:A8.

    So, it is either one of these two:

    =SUM(A1:A8)+A9*5
=SUM(A1:A8;A9*5)
