Unique Reference numbers

I need to create unique reference numbers in a specific alphanumeric sequence such as ABCDEF/201**D with the starred section changeing each time. What formula can I use to do this?

    I think you need to specify a bit more detail please.

    I assume that it is not only the ** bit that is changing but the ABCDE as well?

    At the basic level, you could use something like the attached - but i guess you want more than this?

      no that was spoy on the ** is the only bit that needs to change, thanks for the attachment.
