Problem with Excel
When I attempt to create a line graph (or any other chart) in Excel, there is data automatically included that I did not include. For example, if it enter dates from 1992 to 2003, on the graph may be added the years from 1975. Also, it changes my dates to go chronological instead of how I enter them. For example, 5/11, 5/3, 5/7 become May 3, May 7, and May 11 in that order.
There's a glitch somewhere.

Not knowing what the Y axis is in your case, how it (along with the other data) is arrayed, I can't answer. You can help us help you by posting a copy as requested and pasting a link here that grants access

That's not a bug, that's feature. For number (or date, which actually is also number) axis type Excel scales axis from min to max with some gap to fit all values are in the range. However, in settings you may set min and max value as well as units value.
If you'd like to have values in axis in same order as you entered them, just change axis type on text. Take into account, text axis is not scaled. For example, if you have 1,2,15 the distance between 1 and 2; and between 2 and 15 will be exactly the same.

And given the millions of folks around the globe who are using these same Excel graphs, the odds are that the glitch isn't to be found in Excel in such a manner that it just happened to show up for the first time in your spreadsheet yesterday.
So my suspicion would be that there's something about how you are entering dates that is the underlying cause of these unexpected (and undesired) results when you try to graph your data.
Is it possible for you to post a copy of your workbook on OneDrive or GoogleDrive, with a link here that grants access to it. If there's confidential/proprietary data, do what you need to do to render it anonymous.
- Your post is confusing. On the one hand you seem to be saying that the new file has worked, implying it worked (resolved) the problem you were having with sorting on the Y axis. So what is the question. Also, again, is it possible for you to post the file on OneDrive or GoogleDrive?
