Pinning google drive files

I use google drive, and have several files pinned to my menu in excel. This week, they were removed from the "pinned" file list, and now when I open the files from Google Drive, they do not show up in the recent file list at all. I cannot pin them or choose them to re-open. It is like they do not exist, even when one is open. Does anyone have this issue too? Thank you!

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with your Google Drive files not appearing in the "Pinned" or "Recent" file lists in Excel. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

    1. Check Google Drive Sync: Ensure that your Google Drive is properly synced with your computer. Sometimes, issues with syncing can prevent files from appearing correctly in file lists. Try restarting the Google Drive app or manually syncing your files to see if that resolves the problem.
    2. Check File Permissions: Make sure that you have appropriate permissions to access the files in Google Drive. If the files are shared with you, ensure that the sharing settings have not been changed or revoked.
    3. Clear Excel Cache: Sometimes, Excel's cache can cause issues with file lists. Try clearing Excel's cache by going to File > Options > Advanced > General > "Clear" under "At startup, open all files in" and then restarting Excel.
    4. Re-Pin the Files: If the files have been removed from the "Pinned" list, try pinning them again manually. Open the files from Google Drive and then right-click on Excel's icon in the taskbar and select "Pin to this list" or "Pin to Quick Access" depending on your version of Excel.
    5. Check File Locations: Ensure that the files are located in the same location in Google Drive as before. If they have been moved or renamed, they may not appear in the recent file list correctly.
    6. Update Excel: Make sure that you are using the latest version of Excel and that your software is up to date. Sometimes, issues with file lists can be resolved with software updates.
    7. Try a Different Device: If possible, try opening the files on a different device or computer to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to your current device or Excel installation.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may want to reach out to Google Drive support or Microsoft support for further assistance. They may be able to provide more specific troubleshooting steps or solutions for your particular situation. The text was created with the help of AI.

      NikolinoDE ,

First of all, thank you for your help. In order:

      1) Did that (was done before I posted)

      2) I am not exactly sure how to do that, but I can open the files from my computer without issue.

      3) There was nothing in the box in the area you described. I cleared the empty box to be sure.

      4) Here is the issue, I cannot pin the files. Even when the file is open, it does not show up on the recent file list in excel, or when you right click on the excel icon in the tray. It is like Excel is not recognizing the file exists, even though it is open (!)

      5) Files are in the same location as before, and usable both on this computer and my other computer (see #7 also).

      6) I did this before posting. I also tried to "repair" office following MS's directions before I posted. This did not fix it.

      7) I have an older computer where I also use drive and excel (older version - '16 on the old computer, '21 on the new computer). I fired that up this morning, and excel still has the files from Google drive pinned, and still opens them. When I open a file from drive on that computer, it also shows up in the recent file lists and can be pinned.

I signed out of all my google services today, and un-installed/re-installed drive this morning and still have the issue. I will try MS & Google as you suggested. Thanks again for trying to help, and have a great day!

Thank you for providing additional information about the issue. It seems like you've already tried several troubleshooting steps, but the problem persists. Since the issue appears to be specific to your new computer and not occurring on your older computer, it could be related to the Excel installation or configuration on the new computer.

Here are a few additional suggestions you can try:

        1. Repair Office Installation: Since you mentioned trying to repair Office before, you might want to try a more thorough repair of the Office installation. You can do this by going to Control Panel > Programs and Features, then right-clicking on Microsoft Office and selecting "Change" or "Repair".
        2. Create a New User Profile: Sometimes, issues with Excel settings or configurations can be specific to the user profile. You could try creating a new user profile on your new computer and see if the issue persists when using Excel under the new profile.
        3. Check Add-Ins: Make sure there are no conflicting add-ins or third-party software installed on your new computer that could be interfering with Excel's functionality. Try disabling any add-ins and see if the problem persists.
        4. Check Windows Updates: Ensure that Windows on your new computer is up to date with the latest updates and patches. Sometimes, updates can resolve compatibility issues with software.
        5. Check Antivirus/Firewall Settings: Although you mentioned turning off antivirus, it's possible that there could still be some security settings affecting Excel's behavior. Double-check the settings of your antivirus/firewall software to ensure that they are not blocking Excel or Google Drive access.
        6. Check Excel Trust Center Settings: Verify that the Trust Center settings in Excel are not overly restrictive and not blocking access to files from Google Drive. You can access Trust Center settings by going to File > Options > Trust Center.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, reaching out to Microsoft and Google support as previously suggested would be a good next step. They may have additional insights or specific troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue. With that I would be at my wits end.
