Opening exxcel doc as read only

Hi

Excel version 16.35 Mac

I want to open an excel (xlsx) file as read only.

I do not want to add a password.

I just want the choice of opening a file as read only if I want to avoid accidentally editing it.

This would also allow other people to open and edit while I have it open as read only.

Thanks

C_B_R When you save the workbook for the first time (or Save As if it has been saved before) you can click "Options" in the lower part of the screen.

and indicate it is to be "Read Only". You don't have to provide a password.

When you open the workbook you will see the following screen, where you can choose to open it as read-only or not.

  • Another steps:
    1. Open the Excel workbook and execute ALT + FAO
    2. In the Save As dialogue box, click on the Tool dropdown and select General Options
    3. Check Read-only recommended and click OK
    4. Save

  • Hello,

    1. Close that Excel workbook
    2. Right-click on the Workbook
    3. Select Properties
    4. Check Read-only box

    That's all

      Thanks Abiola1

Does that mean someone else can opening it as an editable doc?

      • Hello,

The Read-only is not entirely safe.. When you have Read-only Excel file, others will be able to read the content of the file. But they won't be able to make changes to the file if they do not save the workbook with another name or in another location
