IF function to define and track expense types

Is it possible to set up the IF function to track expenses on a downloaded csv statement? I want the function to search cells in one column for specific words/store names, and then classify it by the expense type I specify. example, cell in column B shows "Mobil", I want adjacent cell in column C to automatically generate "gas/fuel", cell in column B shows "grocery store" I want adjacent cell in column C to automatically generate "food". Is this possible?
