I recently lost a lot of data, so I took some time to look into this. What I found was that I could copy/paste into a filtered area just fine. However, if I copied (CTRL+C), then pasted AS VALUE (ALT+E, S, V) then the hidden rows get overwritten. To avoid this, you can copy, select only visible rows (ALT+;), then paste as values (ALT+E, S, V).
I get the same results when I work with a table as I do with a range.
I tested with Microsoft® Excel® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2601 Build 16.0.19628.20132) 64-bit. I do not use Excel on the web, or with shared files, so I can’t say if they behave differently.
