External references in Excel return #ref

Hello,

I have an Excel worksheet (destination) I am working on using OneDrive. One of the cells is linked to another worksheet in a different OneDrive folder (source). When I open the destination document first, it tells me  "This workbook contains links to one or more external sources that could be unsafe" and it gives me the option to Update, Don't Update, and Help. Regardless of whether I click Update or Don't Update, the linked cells in the destination doc return #REF!.  However, when I open the source doc and the destination doc at the same time, the #REF! becomes the numbers that they used to be. I would like to not have to open both the source and destination doc every time I open the destination worksheet. Could somebody please help? Thank you.

I found another solution that works for me in all the cases in this link:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office/troubleshoot/excel/external-links-calculated-open-workbook-earlier-version-excel

    Hope it also help you.

    Hi SebastianOrtiz

I have the same problem with some files.

One of them was a link to a pivot table. When I changed the link to a cell out of the table, i didn´t need to open the source file anymore.

However I still have trouble with other files that aren´t linked to pivot tables.

    Regards

    Pedro
