Please be so kind and inform me, how you got the name of the product Excel. Maybe it means Excellent or maybe Ex Cell (out of the cell) or maybe something else?

Hi,
I don't know why Excel is named by that name!
But Excel really excels, exceeds, surpasses, beats, and transcends all other spreadsheet programs!
It also beats other Office applications, because it's the most popular and used application in the Office suite.
Perhaps, because it makes the tedious and hard works can be achieved in an easy and excellent way.
Perhaps, because almost everything can be done using Excel.
Excel deserves to be called this name!

- DeletedThank you for this comment, you reinforce my opinion that it derives from Latin excellere. Even Multiplan was a wow and Excel is even better. But maybe you have a hint vor me. Do you think that it is possible to ask this question to microsoft? They have no electronic contact-address and the support sites are only for these topics, that I do not need. Thank you.

You may ask the founder Bill Gates, he definitely knows the story about this name.
But I don't know how to contact him!
By the way, I found this discussion that talks about the same topic.
- DeletedThank you for your information.
This bears also a small criticism of Microsoft in it, really the people from Microsoft are not easy to contact, if it is not specifically targeted to a technical or commercial issue.
