Apr 13, 2018Excel version 2152 - Selecting data in formula bar: behavior change?
Two days ago, I updated office. After the update, excel appears to have slightly different behavior. But, maybe there is an option that I'm not familiar with to get the old behavior back again. The version with the older behavior is 2016 MSO 16.0.9126.2116. The version with the changed behavior is 16.0.9126.2152.
In version 2152, I select a cell with a random combination of letters, numbers, and special characters. The data in the cell is displayed in the formula bar. I then double-click on the data in the formula bar. Previously, all the data would be selected. Now, only the letters and numbers radiating from the cursor are selected -- the selection stops at the first special character encountered. For example, create a new excel workbook. Enter this text into any cell: "a1b2c3$d4e5f6". Click on the cell, and then double-click on the '1' in the text. Note that the selection is now "a1b2c3", not all the text in the cell. I would like the older behavior, where all the data in the cell is selected even when a special character (in this case, a '$') appears in the midst of the data. This is what happened in version 2116.
Any ideas about this change? Is it a new feature, or is it a bug? Thanks for any help.

Hi Bill,
I'm on the build "16.0.9126.2152" but I didn't notice this behavior!
It's still as it is!
The behavior that you noticed is already found in the Word but not in Excel.
There might be something wrong with the format of the text, or it has some hidden characters.
Maybe the version of Excel needs to repair.
I see such behavior on 1804.9226.2059, have no idea how it was before.
