Excel convert text to year
I copied data from https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/hadobs/hadcet/cetml1659on.dat to an excel sheet To plot it I need to convert the first columns to year. Googled online, no clear answer. I tried several offered online but none works. Need help.
- Thanks. Let me digest it for a day or two. It looks like excel has changed since the last version I used, that was from early 2000s. Thanks again

Mike_Kova Why would you want to convert the first column to "year". It's just going to be an axis label, unless you have something else in mind. Attached a file with the data you referred to and a simple line chart for the average yearly temperatures. The years are on the horizontal axis, based on the first column in the data tab.

Riny_van_Eekelen Thank you so much for replying. I have tried to plot the graph but for whatever reason could not get it right. Would you please describe how you got the plot. Thank you so much in advance

Mike_Kova Perhaps easier to see when you move the chart into the Data sheet. Then select the chart and you'll see the ranges that selected for the line and axis labels. In the example, I took N2:N364 for the line and A2:A364 for the axis labels.
