Excel - import data - must install internet explorer 9 or above

Hello!

Whenever I want to import data (from txt, web,.. ) to an Excel spreadsheet I get a pop-up message saying I need to install Internet Explorer 9 or above to do that.

I am using Office 365 2016.

I would like to know if there is a solution or workaround for this?

I could just install Internet Explorer but why would I do that if I don't use it.

Best regards,

G

Perhaps you don't use it, but parts of Office apparently do. Did you remove IE from your computer by any chance? I guess you need to put it back to use this functionality. However annoying that is.

By the way, is it possible to remove IE without crashing the system?

If you google for it there are many instructions how to do it, so I expect you can.
