Embedding an Excel file into another Excel file

I am trying to insert as an Excel file into an Excel spreadsheet.  On the Insert ribbon, I click on Object>Create from File>Browse then navigate to the file I want to insert, select it, click Insert in the dialogue box, then click on Display as icon and click OK.  This works fine with some Excel files but not with others.  In the latter case, I get a message saying "Cannot Insert Object".  Why?

    Maybe try this:

     

    Go to Insert Tab -> Object -> double click Package in the list of options -> then the "Create Package" dialog will appear where it will guide you through the attachment process.

      Yes I can see that "Package" works the same as Insert > Object > Create From File [Display as Icon].

       

      However, I would like to display a window into the real-time content of another Excel file via [Link to File] as is shown in this screen shot https://prnt.sc/dx4ThQI1aofu

       

      But, all I get is an empty window. Any idea how I can get this to work? BTW, I'm using Excel 365.

I am trying to insert as an Excel file into an Excel spreadsheet.  On the Insert ribbon, I click on Object>Create from File>Browse then navigate to the file I want to insert, select it, click Insert in the dialogue box, then click on Display as icon and click OK.  This works fine with some Excel files but not with others.  In the latter case, I get a message saying \"Cannot Insert Object\".  Why?

Yes I can see that \"Package\" works the same as Insert > Object > Create From File [Display as Icon].

 

However, I would like to display a window into the real-time content of another Excel file via [Link to File] as is shown in this screen shot https://prnt.sc/dx4ThQI1aofu

 

But, all I get is an empty window. Any idea how I can get this to work? BTW, I'm using Excel 365.
